Discipleship - Jesus Calls Personally
After salvation Jesus Calls all believers personally to discipleship.
I am passing this on because I am called and I received many blessings. After
coming to Christ I attended church regularly and a bible study, but this only
meant that I was fulfilling my preconceived requirements, a religious
activity. I continued to attend religious activities. Seven years after
coming to Christ, I still struggled with my Christian beliefs and lifestyle.
For instance, when I first came to, Christ I only received Jesus' salvation
message. I never heard about an exciting next step about a personal mission. I continued to attend
religious activities until my divorce happened. Suddenly, as I attended
another church, I realized that there was more to being a Christian than
attendance. I attended another church because I was hiding from the shame of
the divorce and I had no friends, no hope or no vision I reached rock bottom!
In the Sunday service, I heard a message about Lordship. Next at home in my
bed, I heard a message about "The Armor of God" that evening so, I called on
the Lord from my bed. I understood that I needed to develop and accept a
lifestyle totally dependant on Christ. When I am willing to submit to His
Word, fellowship, prayer, witnessing, and the leading of the Holy Spirit
Lordship of Christ, is maintained and lived out victoriously.
Personal Discipleship is a call for all believers. It gave me many blessings in my personal life, family, and ministry. #1. The Laymen' Call to Build up the Body #2. #1. The Laymen's Call to Build up the Body
The Laymen's Call -The laymen initial mission is to build up the body
of Christ. Eph. 4:11-12, Jesus Mission "It was He who gave some to be
apostles, some to be prophets . . . to prepare God's people for the works of
service, so that the body of Christ may be built up" (NIV). Jesus want you!
Jesus empowers you! All believers are to be equipped.
Power - The power of the truth of God's Word increased my vision. The faithfulness of God's Word continued to lead me to faith and to seek His call. In the past I had no self-control, but lordship gave me a new vision of hope. The Lord used fellowship to encourage me to read the Word, pray, and to witness. For the first time in my life, I was making choices that had happy consequences. Also, the Lord's promises were hard to implement, but they produced a solid foundation to live on, the truth. I believed that He gave me a useful gift to build up the body. I discovered that I needed to mature for His purpose. As a disciple, I accepted, received, and believed the Lords' call to equip other believers. I learned responsibilities and freedoms. As a disciple, I took on the responsibilities of understanding my personal and corporate call to be always ready to learn and pass on discipleship. Additional responsibilities and opportunities included, to submit and become a part of a fellowship. This fellowship group encouraged and confronted me in love, for it provided accountability. Christian modeling, in addition, helped to me to see Christian principles in action, and it gave me insights into possible different directions. (E.T.S. books one chapter 1)
