"Lay people do as well as or better than the professional." "Lay . . . are freer to focus " (Collins, 1988, 56-57). They create a relationship that God allows for the purpose of healing rather than a business. Laity tend to spent time with a limited group of individual clients are more effective. They can be "more intense, less rushed more caring and less like an assembly line" (Collins, 1988, 56-57).

Biblical Usage suggests the usage of roles of a priest and a prophet. (Carlson)."... (a) person who comes along side as God's channel of mercy and truth." (Collins, 1988, 56-59). Jesus was both roles' a prophet and a priest (Carlson). To be led by the Spirit and Scripture is needed to remain on the proper path. "Reflective knowledge of Scriptures along with a compassionate heart can, under the guidance of the Spirit, be used to uncover the root of problems that elude a purely 'psychological approach' (Collins, 1988, 56-59).
