# 3. Getting the Story Straight
Maturity - As I shared my story, it helped me mature in Christ. Sharing my story
helped me to understand my new found truths and live them out through my
lives by faith. Consequently, I continued to identify myself a Christian.
At work, for instance, changes began to take place. I began to pray for
wisdom, and identify myself to my fellow workers as a believer in Christ.
One day I was surprised, a co-worker in another department, asked me, "Why
did you become born again?" I was unprepared to for a complete answer, so
I told him that was a good question. I discovered, I will learn more about the
Bible, and my identity in Christ as others become interested in the story. I told
my co-worker, before I knew
Christ I was concerned. I didn't know where I would
go when I died, but now I know the Bible states, you must be born again
to enter the kingdom of God. I matured in my faith as I found answers to
the questions asked during witnessing.
I started to attend a weekly lifestyle evangelism group. Every week I
learned more of what my salvation meant. I reviewed and integrated my flesh,
and my faith responsibilities. I matured in faith by the power of prayer,
fellowship, the Word, and witnessing. I found out that witnessing was
a command and a natural outgrowth for Christians. Witnessing became a natural
process when I was accountable daily by living and submitting to the truths'
led by the Spirit of God. However, as a hunter, I acted religious when I
took control while witnessing. Moreover as a fisher evangelism was natural and
realistic. I look for and let the Lord open the doors to conversations.
#4. Not Religious, But Realistic - I had an opportunity to take my story in and live it realistically not religiously. Religiously meant hunting to put myself on a pedestal and demand that the only way to live is the way I do. People who are like a Pharisee are religious, they make legalistic rules. Int he example of the fellow at work or myself as a hunter exhibited this type of person. The religious people control and watch others; instead, of submitting themselves to God's laws. Realistically is Matthew 4:19 "Come follow me," said Jesus, "And I will make you fishers of men." This biblical principle of witnessing is an example of active free choices that are to be made daily, for this is a lifestyle process revealing how Jesus has freed me. For instance, I actively choose to submit to Jesus' will over mine. Therefore, I followed His way to share my faith with interested people the way He followed the Father's will over His own. Evangelism is not a program, for it is privilege to reveal the hope that is in me.
